When your cat urinates, 90% of the urine drains through the sieve in the top tray into the bottom tray, where it is trapped, minimizing unpleasant odors. But because the used wood pellets decompose into sawdust and fall into the bottom tray there is less need to replace the wood-pellet litter in the top grid. Just simple add fresh wood-pellets every 3-5 days to keep the level at 2 cm and clean the whole litter box every 1-2 months.
